Thomas Jones

Tom Jones has been a partner in the Tax Department of the Chicago office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, a 1,000-plus attorney international law firm, for more than 20 years. His practice during that period has focused on legal matters concerning establishment and operation of alternative risk transfer and other self-insurance mechanisms, with particular emphasis on tax, insurance regulatory, securities law, reinsurance and related compliance issues.

He regularly advises on formation and structuring of offshore or onshore captives, fronted and unfronted, as well as on trusts and risk retention/purchasing groups. He has extensive experience in stock, mutual and reciprocal formats, as well as with “cell” captives and “rent-a-captives.”
