What is the Certificate of Captive Insurance (CCI) program?

• An intermediate-level educational benchmark that requires fewer courses and has a lower tuition than the ACI
• There are three types of certificates available (each requires four courses):  the CCI-O for captive owners, the CCI-M for captive managers, and the General CCI

How long does it take to complete an ICCIE course?

• Including the exam window anywhere between 8 – 12 weeks. 
  • Courses are scheduled with beginning and end dates, are faculty-led and offer students great flexibility in accessing courses without travel requirements. Although online courses have weekly assignments, students have flexibility to complete readings and assignments over the course of the week. Through online discussion boards, students also benefit from interaction with other students as well as the instructor(s).  Following the last webconference students have 1-2 weeks to submit homework prior to a four week exam window.

How much work is involved per course?

• 75 minute webconferences are held once a week
• In addition, students can expect to spend about 75 minutes per week on readings and assignments outside of class
• Courses range from 3-6 webconferences
• Course reading assignments range from 60 pages – 400 pages (including optional readings) depending upon the course (divided among the webconferences)
• Course homework assignments may include team case study assignments as well as individual course work
• Vocabulary (Glossary of Terms) is provided for each course

How long are the webconferences?

• 75 minutes per week

What time are the webconferences offered?

• 12:00 noon – 1:15 pm  Eastern Time

How does the grading work?

• The final course grade is determined by attendance, participation, and the final exam score. Every course includes a maximum of 100 points. Earning a combined score point value of 80 or higher is required to pass the course:
  • Attendance (10 points): Missed class(es) must be made up by viewing the archive prior to when the credit period ends (see Participation Point posting date in syllabus) for maximum credit.
  • Participation (10 points): Includes active involvement during class, participation in the team case study (if applicable) and completion of homework assignments.
  • Final Exam (80 points): Students are provided a four-week testing window to sit the closed book course exam(s). You have two chances to pass a final exam. If your course points after taking the first exam total 80 or above, you do not need to take the second exam.

Can I take the classes as an independent study or in a “self-paced” format?

• ICCIE Core and Elective courses cannot be completed in an independent study or self-paced format

What if I miss a webconference?

• Each webconference is recorded and archived.  If a student misses a webconference they are asked to view the archive of the session prior to the next webconference to earn full participation credit. 

What if I don’t pass a course?

• ACI Designation and CCI Certificate students may retake the course again at no additional cost
• ACI Designation and CCI Certificate students may opt to “test-out” by paying $125 testing fee to take an additional  course exam
• Modular students may retake the course at the cost of the tuition

How much does each course cost?

• If you are enrolled in the CCI or ACI designation program, tuition includes all your required courses and webinars
• If you are enrolling in courses or webinars as a modular student, see the  prices listed on the Individual Courses and Webinars page

Can I take more than one course at a time?

• Yes, however, it is advisable to take courses that do not have a extended overlap of time

Can I start by taking individual ICCIE courses and then “convert” to the ACI or CCI program?

• Yes. If you take individual ICCIE courses and then decide to enroll in the ACI or CCI program, fifty percent of what you pay for the individual ICCIE course(s) will be applied as credit to your ACI or CCI tuition. You can also complete the ACI or CCI designation by paying for each course separately.

• Educational teleconferences or webinars offered through ICCIE, Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) or through approved modules at various captive conferences
