ICCIE elective: Regulation of Captives

Mark Wiedeman is Director of the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance. A Utah native, Mark is a graduate of Brigham Young University with a bachelor of arts in history and a master’s in public administration. He began his regulatory career working as a valuation analyst for the Utah State Tax Commission. He joined the Utah Insurance Department in 2012 as an auditor before being promoted to senior examiner and eventually rising through the ranks to become assistant division director. In 2022, he left the Utah Insurance Department to start a business in contract insurance examinations and captive insurance consulting.

Mark has achieved his Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) designation from the Society of Financial Examiners, Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation from the International Center for Captive Insurance Education, and Professional in Insurance Regulation (PIR) from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Utah Valley University in Orem Utah, teaching classes in Economic History.
