Sean Rider is managing director, sales and consulting, for Willis global captive practice, Willis Group Holdings based in New York City. Sean is responsible for developing and executing global marketing strategies, captive consultancy offerings, and best in class consultancy procedures across Willis’ global captive practice. Sean’s responsibilities include performing and coordinating various levels of analysis with respect to alternative risk transfer solutions; fostering relationships with alternative risk transfer markets; assisting clients with strategic development of their alternative risk transfer solutions; and educating various parties regarding the opportunities available to them through the use of captives. Sean has expertise in a broad spectrum of captive and alternative risk transfer mechanisms. In his career he has demonstrated experience in a number of diverse projects and has worked with alternative risk transfer vehicles in many key onshore and offshore domiciles. Sean has specialized in alternative risk transfer business and, in particular, captive business for the entirety of his career. Prior to joining Willis, Sean was the Director of North American Business Development for HSBC Insurance Management, where he sourced business and provided consultancy for a variety of captive insurance arrangements. Sean had been with HSBC for about four years. Prior to joining HSBC, Sean was a marketing executive in the Specialty Marketing Group of Discover Re, handling reinsurance and fronting for a broad spectrum of captive structures. Sean had been with Discover for four years in both underwriting and marketing roles. Prior to Discover Re, Sean was with Zurich in their Group Alternative Program Solutions division where he focused on captive and program business and in their Alternative Risk Underwriting Services operation where he focused on excess workers’ compensation for the self-insured.
