Mr. McElhiney is a partner at Augment Risk, where he leads the firm’s captive and alternative risk transfer solutions division. His responsibilities include developing legacy solutions in the captive insurance space, repurposing micro-captives, exploring roll-up initiatives with capital providers, and extending captive capabilities to managing general agents.
Prior to joining Augment Risk, Mr. McElhiney served as senior vice president and global director of reinsurance at Artex Risk Solutions. His extensive career in the insurance industry includes senior roles in reinsurance underwriting and corporate finance at global insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries, and captive insurers, such as Allianz, Transamerica, Argo Group, and Overseas Partners RE. He has also served as chief financial officer, corporate treasurer, and board member in various organizations.
Mr. McElhiney holds a master of business administration (MBA) degree in corporate finance, a master of science (MS) degree in global supply chain management, and a bachelor of science degree from the University of Southern California. He also holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designations. In recognition of his contributions to the industry, he was named to the Captive Review Hall of Fame in 2021.
