Kathryn A. Westover

Kate Westover recently joined Innovative Captive Strategies, Inc. (ICS) as Vice President, Alternative Risk Financing Services. Prior to that Kate was president of Captive Advisory Services, a member of the Argonaut group of companies, where she provided consulting and captive structuring services to brokers and their customers, as well as to insurers and reinsurers. She serves as Barbados International Business Representative and has also served as captive advisor to the District of Columbia Insurance and Securities Department. She has worked with captive insurance companies in leading captive domiciles throughout the world.

Kate has over fifteen years experience in the captive insurance industry. Before forming Captive Advisory Services, Kate was Chief Operating Officer of Strategic Risk Solutions Vermont. Prior to that she was President of American Risk Management (now part of AON), one of the leading captive management companies in Vermont.

Kate has taught insurance courses for the Vermont Insurance Institute at Champlain College, and is a frequent speaker at a number of industry conferences and workshops. Her publications include “Direct Aggregate Excess Liability Policies (Captive Insurance Company Reports, February 1992); “Risk Manager and Reinsurer – a Common Destiny”, (Captive Insurance Company Reports, June 1992); “Managing Retention Capacity”, (Captive Insurance Company Reports, July 1995); “Financial Modeling for Risk Managers – Calculating Risk Management Value Added” (The Risk Financing Newsletter); Special Purpose Vehicles (The Risk Financing Newsletter). She authored the chapter on Terrorism Issues for Captive Insurance Companies in the IRMI publication “Terrorism Insurance: What Risk and Insurance Professionals Must Know.” Her book “Captives and the Management of Risk” was published by the International Risk Management Institute in March 2002.
