Michael Rosenbaum

Michael is a partner with DrinkerBiddle.  He has been with the firm since 1987.  Michael is a vice chair of the firm’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice Group.

Michael’s practice includes the full range of employee benefit and executive/physician compensation matters. More specifically, he has extensive experience in:

  • Designing and implementing tax-qualified retirement plans;
  • Designing, implementing and funding executive compensation plans;
  • Addressing health and welfare plan design, compliance and operational issues;
  • Advising clients regarding the classification of workers as independent contractors or employees;
  • Advising clients regarding the employee benefit arrangements for executives and physicians of tax-exempt organizations.

Michael is a co-founder and member of the steering committee for the development and continuing sponsorship of the HR/Hospital Advisory Board (co-sponsored by Deloitte) for senior HR executives in tax-exempt health care systems. He is a frequent speaker on employee benefits and executive/physician compensation issues. He has addressed national conferences of such organizations as the American Society for Healthcare Human Resource Administration, Profit-Sharing Council of America, Enrolled Actuaries, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Bar Association, American Medical Association, Chicago Bar Association, Michigan and Illinois CPA Societies, Strategic Research Institute, Institute for International Research and the Employers Summit on Healthcare.

For many years, Michael was a monthly co-author of theEmployee Benefit Plan Review Journal’s “Regulatory Update” column and has also written numerous articles, including articles published in the Journal of Accountancy, Employment Relations Today, Medical Practice Management Journal, CCH Tax Transactionsbook on the health care industry, Callaghan’s legal checklist and an Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education manual.

Michael is recognized as one of Chambers USA’s 2006“Leaders in their Field” for Employee Benefits; in the 2007 edition of the Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of Employee Benefits Law; and in the February 2007 issue of Chicago magazine as a 2007 Illinois Super Lawyer.
