Geoffrey T. Smith

Geof is Senior Vice President of Risk Management at Banknorth Insurance Group based in Portland, Maine. He is responsible for developing and implementing top-notch risk management programs for Banknorth and its clients, and for Northgroup Sponsored Captive Insurance, Inc. Geof has held this position since February of 2002 and reports to the Executive Vice President of Banknorth Insurance Group, Fred Leavitt.

Prior to joining Banknorth Insurance, Geof was Director, Banking and Risk Management with the Brunswick Corporation in Lake Forest, Illinois. Geof’s leadership in risk management spans 21 years with such well-known companies as Tupperware, Premark International, Philip Morris and Kraft, and he has served as chair of the Manufacturers Alliance Risk Management Council and the Risk and Insurance Management Society’s food industry group.

Geof has authored numerous articles on insurance and risk management, and has served as an instructor in management development and total quality management.
